Brewdog Punk IPA Clone Recipe
Punk IPA was released at a time when craft beer in the UK was a very niche interest. It is not surprising that it the UK’s best-selling craft beer despite claiming that it is “punk” because it is both complex and accessible in today’s market.
It is most definitely inspired by hop-forward US IPA’s but it also shares a remarkable similarity to an earlier UK Beer, Thornbridge Jaipur IPA. It also just so happens that Martin Dickie one of the founders of Brewdog started his brewing career at Thornbridge brewery.
Punk IPA is a classic and the recipe is no mystery so the test for the home brewer is to try and recreate it.

Brewdog
Out of all the craft breweries based in the UK Brewdog is undoubtedly the most successful with both brewing plants and bars on each side of the Atlantic and worldwide.
Bringing US influenced beer to the UK when at the time Brewdog would say beer was for old men with bushy beards they have treated each beer they’ve made with their very own style of marketing
Their marketing has been one of the biggest contributors to the breweries success from brewing the world strongest beers and bottling the beer in a taxidermy squirrel to releasing all the recipes for every beer they’ve ever brewed.
If you are interested in the brewery and what makes them tick then I suggest their book “Craft Beer For The People”
Malt Extract Version
To brew a malt extract version of this beer substitute the extra malt the following:
3.18kg (7lb) Extra Light Dry Malt Extract
Steep the Caramalt in a grain bag for 20 minutes, add a third of the malt extract at the start of the boil and the remaining 2/3rds a few minutes before the end of the boil.
