Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock Clone Recipe

Ayinger Celebrator Recipe

Ayinger Celebrator (pronounced “eye-ing-gr”) is a Doppelbock which translates as “double bock” a beer that is stronger and maltier than the tradition german bock style beers.

Doppelbock and Celebrator in particular is a dark, malty lager with a clean, crisp maltiness. Ayinger Celebrator is certainly not a beer to brew if you are just getting started brewing. A decoction mash is required where pulling part of the mash and heating it develops deep, melanoidin flavours and then the beer will need lagering with a tightly temperature-controlled fermentation.

Ayinger Brewery

Ayinger brewery is located in Aying, Germany just outside of Munich. Founded in 1877, Celebrator is probably very similar if not the same as doppelbocks made at the brewery since starting.

The brewery and the beer, Celebrator has won numerous awards and is one of the highest-rated beers in the world. The two goats on the bottle relate to the town of Einbeck where bock beers originate. Einbock, translates as “billy goat” which is why you see a lot of goats on bock beer labels.
