Verdant Lightbulb Extra Pale Ale Recipe

Verdant Lightbulb Recipe

Verdant Brewery has seemingly grown from a tiny startup based in a container to a hugely popular destination brewery in a couple of years.

Based in Falmouth, Cornwall their success is down to their pale, hoppy and hazy ethos, which focus on hops and yeast combining to create tropical, fruity and mouth-filling flavours.

By far the most sought after beers are DIPAs, DDH pale ales and the like but Lightbulb which is a more sessionable 4.5% ABV is a highlight for me. Balancing extra pale and hop-forward flavours requires skill and fine-tuning that make this a great beer to try and brew yourself.

Hazy, Pale & Hoppy

Verdant Brewing is a classic example of how a few homebrewers can go on to create a nationally and internationally known brand following a set of principles that set them apart.

Starting in a shipping container brewing just a few kegs at a time, going on to crowdfund and commission a brewery and then do the process again in the space of a couple of years should be an inspiration for any home brewer.

All this time brewing predominantly one style of type of beer which is hoppy, pale and murky.

Recipe Notes

  • This recipe is sourced from an issue of the magazine Hop & Barley
  • The brewery has often stated that Lightbulb is constantly being tweaked and changed so this recipe is an approximation and should be a good base to work from.
